The Princess 34 is a lightweight mower and very easy to operate.  It comes complete with a 15 metre electric cable.  The single point height adjuster makes changing the cutting height very simple.  The mower has 6 preset cutting heights from 25mm to 75mm.  A roller is fitted between the rear wheels and will leave a striped finish on lower cutting height settings.

The mower can be used with the 35 litre collector if you wish to collect the clippings.  It can also be used as a mulching mower using the plug supplied or clippings can be discharged onto the lawn, the grass deflector flap directs them down onto the turf.

The Princess 34 also features a safety brake which means the blade stops rotating within 3 seconds of the operator releasing the switch.

    Better than walking a dog
I’ve walked a lot of dogs. I’ve used a lot of lawnmowers. I know my grass from a user and a carer perspective.

I really like this little mower. Light weight enough to carry without strain, and to make mowing undemanding. It even looks pretty, like a lawnmower that the future might be lending me to have a look at.

It leaves a good cut. Metal blade you see. Good length cord - I can plug it into the kitchen socket, so now you know exactly how big my garden is.

It’s a perfect mower if you want the grass to look good and not take a Labour of Hercules to achieve.

Lovely. Simple where required, robust where essential. The plastic ‘clicks’ when putting the catch box together are satisfyingly secure.

I’m actually looking forward to the next time I mow.

    Some good some bad
Cuts really well, light to push.
Disappointed that the cable is not detachable, on all the promo pics that I've seen there is NO cable visible. Very deceptive of Mountfield. Cable clips missing from pack. John Lewis sorting otherwise it will be returned.

Good value. Performs well but some disappointing features
Other family members have owned, and I have used, Mountfield petrol mowers for many years, so when I needed to replace my own electric mower I chose Mountfield and ordered direct. It arrived in good time and was easy to set up. I was disappointed to find it was not of British manufacture, but that's how things are these days. I've had it for a couple of months now and have used it both on lawns and on rough grass; I've not tried the mulch function (and probably won't).

    Things I like about it:
    * It is lighter than my previous mower (which was of similar specification), the handlebar folds down easily, and it has a well-placed carry handle. It's therefore much easier to get out or put away and takes up less storage space.
    * Unlike my last mower, it can be operated easily with either hand on the handlebar and it's lighter and more manouevrable in use
    * It fits better under overhanging foliage
    * Its motor is powerful enough to cope with rough, long and/or wet grass without complaint
    * The grass collection box fits securely and is easy to put on and take off
    * The single-lever height adjustment is extremely light (it's sprung to counter gravity) and easy to operate

Things I'm not so pleased about:
    * The cable is not detachable - it's permanently attached and has to be wound round the handlebar (this may not annoy others but it does me)
    * The lowest height setting is still too high - it leaves short-stalked daisies in the lawn and is unsatisfactory at cutting grass growing between the stones on my paths
    * The roller is always at the same height relative to the wheels and neither the rear wheels nor the roller can be detached (on short grass I'd prefer all of the weight to be on the roller; on rough grass I'd prefer not to have a roller at all)
    * The roller is a flimsy two-piece plastic affair clipped together around its shaft and one of the clips has already been sprung apart (I'm not sure how - fortunately I managed to secure it again but this should not have happened)
    * The stripes it leaves on the lawn are much less noticeable than the ones left by my old mower, maybe because the roller bears less weight (lighter machine plus some weight on wheels) or because the roller is not smooth or simply because the cut is not so close
    * The wheels plus roller and their height adjustment mechanism do not appear to be of robust construction so I'll be surprised if this machine turns out to be as durable as previous Mountfield mowers I've used (but I bear in mind that it cost only a fraction of the price)
    * I find it surprisingly noisy

Overall I think this mower was good value for money. I'm pleased with its easy handling and the way it tackles rough grass, but there are some disappointing features.

    Excellent mower
I’ve just bought the Mountfield Princess 34L electric lawn mower. First cut today was good, light machine easy to adjust the height and easy to use. Assembly consists of the grass box, and the handles. The handles were straight forward, using the manufacturer’s drawings as a guide. The grass box was rather more difficult. It consists of three parts, two parts form the sides and bottom, and a third part forms the top. The bottom/sides bits fit together easily but the top was more of a problem. As you hit the catches on the top bit to fit them into the side panels the whole box flexes dissipating the power of the hit, and the catches go nowhere. I found that if you put something under each catch (inside the box) to support the catch, then when you hit the top above where you’re supporting it the catch goes in very easily. Start at the back and work systematically forward, supporting each catch in turn as you do it. Using this method the top came together in seconds – literally. Don’t use a hammer or anything hard to hit the outside of the top with or it will probably crack the plastic – use your hand (gloved) or something similarly soft and it will assemble OK.
Overall an excellent product which I would recommend

    Very pleased
I don't normally bother reviewing products, but I've been so pleased with this little mower that I felt I had to.
It is really easy to use, I love the big lever that you use to change how short it cuts the grass.
The mulching plug is great. When I am cutting regularly I just leave it in and it takes no time to cut the lawn, no stopping to empty the grass bag......brilliant.
The roller is good as well as it stops the back wheel dropping in the flower beds when cutting along the edge of the lawn.
Very pleased and I'd happily recommended this mower.

    Excellent product
I have had two previous Mountfield Princess lawnmowers which have lasted 25 years between them, so my first thought was to replace with a similar product. Read numerous reviews on line from other purchasers and was nearly put off by adverse comments relating to assembling the grass box - still decided to go ahead with the purchase. Can't understand what all the fuss is about - if you line all the clips up first, without trying to fasten any completely, and then using one hand on the outside and one hand on the inside of the grass box the clips fasten together with just a sharp push on each individual clip.

My only complaint about my purchasing experience was that one of the cable clips was missing from the product and when I contacted the Mountfield helpline I was told that I would have to take the mower together with proof of purchase to a local dealer - the main reason I purchased on line is that there are no dealers nearby and also a lawnmower is too heavy for me to manhandle into and out of my car - disappointing that Mountfield refused to forward the missing item to me by post.
