The SP505R is a high specification rear roller mower ideal for maintaining a classic striped lawn. It is powered by a 160cc Honda GCV160 OHC recoil start engine and features a forged aluminium chassis which carries a 20 year anti-corrosion warranty.
A 4 speed change-on-the-move transmission allows the forward speed to be adjusted to suit working conditions, whilst the self propelled feature ensures ease of use. The engine powers the blades and the rear roller, so you don't have to push the mower.
Over the past few years self propelled mowers have become increasingly popular and we now sell more than hand propelled models.
The SP505R has 8 preset cutting heights ranging from 18 - 65mm operated by a single lever making it easy to select the appropriate finish for your lawn. It also comes supplied with a large 65 litre grass bag.
With a 48cm/19in cutting width this great rear roller mower is suitable for larger gardens up to 55m x 55m.

Good Product Review by Educator
Quality Bought this after a bad experience of buying a 'Chinese Mountfield' from a well known tool supplier (these are also sold by the big DIY store with an orange logo). This was a dreadful quality product.
Luckily the SP505R is in a different league. The price difference was huge, but the difference in quality is very apparent. Although I have only used it a couple of times the quality of cut is excellent and noticably better with a roller than rear wheels. The rear roller makes manouevering the mower slightly more cumbersome, but worth it. The last Mountfield with a rear roller I owned was about 30 years old and the roller was plastic, this one is a proper heavyweight steel one.
I also like the four speed transmission, as it allows more rapid progress on the boring straight stretches of lawn.
I hope this mower gives many years of good service. A shame that the free 5 year warranty requires authorised servicing, as I have always done my own. Many years experience previously in the motor trade make lawn mower repairs and maintenance somewhat simple, and certainly not something I wish to pay for. (Posted on 06/06/2011) -
Pleasing Stripes Review by Flower Bud
Quality Stripes on the lawn are quintessentially British and something most important to us when we chose our Mountfield SP505R. There are a few manufacturers of 'Roller' mowers around, we looked at most of them but kept returning to the Mountfield it's got a very sturdy steel roller on the back, heavy enough to give those pleasing stripes and also stops the machine from going off the edge of the lawn into the flower borders. The engine (a Honda) starts easily and the controls are simple to operate. The four speed transmission offers ground speeds to suit all cutting conditions and the grass collector works extremely well on dry or damp grass. Of course we were swayed by the fact the Mountfield was around £200 cheaper than it's nearest equivalent competitor plus there is a free 20 year anti corrosion warranty on the cutter deck and 5 years on the rest of the machine. It does all we need of it.
