The SP505 is a high specification lawnmower with a forged aluminium cutter deck that carries a 20 year anti-corrosion warranty. Powered by the Honda GCV135 OHC engine which features a cast iron cylinder liner for a long engine life, this 135cc OHC 4 stroke engine packs plenty of power.
The SP505 lawnmower also features our 3 in 1 Combi facility; it can collect the grass into the large 70 litre collector or rear discharge if required and by fitting the mulching plug which is supplied with the lawnmower it can mulch the grass as well.
Mulching grass is a great feature, it saves so much time and can make mowing the lawn more than 30% quicker, as there is no need to keep going to the tip to empty clippings. You may well ask “Will I see the mulched grass?” and the answer is “No!” Mulched clippings are blown down into the turf and are not noticeable provided the grass is cut regularly and not on the lowest setting. Some owners prefer to collect grass cuttings on areas close to the house to be certain that children or pets don’t carry them inside and then use the mulching facility on all the other areas.
Switching between collection or mulch modes is extremely simple and takes less than a minute. To mulch just remove the collector, insert the mulching plug into the discharge chute and replace the collector. To return to collection simply reverse the procedure.
Mulching the grass allows the clippings to be recycled improving the soil as they decompose forming a natural fertiliser high in potash and nitrogen. You will notice a marked improvement in your grass as this fertiliser takes effect over the course of the cutting season.
A 48cm/19" cutting width makes this top of the range mower suitable for larger gardens up to 55m x 55m.

A Good Buy Review by Robert
Quality Mountfield 505SP. I recently purchased this mower after much trawling of the internet. The build quality is excellent, although I had to strip down the rear plastic header cover before I could attach the collector box. The lugs were not aligned which was quite annoying. Started first time, handled well, although the engine struggled with the first cut. Now doubting as to whether I should have purchased the slightly bigger cc engine size. My only ask is that ‘Mountfield’ engineers start incorporating a key start to all models for ease of use. Do shop around for best price, I paid £499.00 (Posted on 09/03/2012)

Great Mower Review by Mill on The Lawn
Quality I scrapped my dad's 25 year mountfield M4 last year and bought a new mountfield SP505; the new one has a honda engine, an aluminium cutter deck that comes with a free 20 year anti corrosion warranty. The handles fold down for winter storage or putting in the boot of the car; it also mulches as well as collects grass, plus it can be used without the collector for cutting long rough grass. I've found mulching the lawn much quicker than having to empty the box every time but the option of grass collection is great especially at the beginning of the season when the grass is really thick. the SP505 certainly appears as sturdy as dad's old mountfield and hopefully it will last just as long. Great value, especially with the 5 year warranty. (Posted on 02/02/2011)
